Ericsson works with Telecom Egypt on a future-proof network evolution project, bringing the operator a step closer to its long term goal of an all-IP network. Telecom Egypt is the leading fixed-telephony operator in the Middle-East and North Africa, serving approximately 12 million subscribers. In today’s fastpaced communications environment, it is particularly important for operators to prepare for future technology developments and subscriber growth.
Telecom Egypt identified a need for additional capacity to ensure that its strong market position was maintained and could be built upon in the future. The solution to enable this to occur was a network evolution project, which provides Telecom Egypt with a next-generation fixed network, capable of handling IP-based traffic and services.
Ericsson was selected as a partner for the project due to its proven technology leadership, vast experience in network development and track record. The fact that Ericsson was already working in partnership with Cisco Systems on the IP backbone was an additional factor in the selection, since Cisco has a good reputation in the region
